After 8 years at his easel in his south-west London studio or painting near his house in the Pelopponese, Chris Argyle reckons he has gone some way towards understanding the subtleties of shape and colour and capturing the essence and the atmosphere of the cityscapes, landscapes and seascapes of southern England and Greece. With the spring and autumn near Kalamata on the Mani Peninsula and the summer and winter in England, he paints principally in oils – either on board or on canvas – supplemented occasionally with pastel or acrylics. He works either ‘en plein air’ or in his studio with the help of copious numbers of drawings. He is seldom without his sketchbook. His work has been on show regularly in England and in Greece – notably at the Mall Galleries in London, the Chelsea Arts Fair, the Putney Art Exhibition each summer and at Art on the Hill at the RHND on West Hill. Chris’s work is always available at Will’s Art Warehouse at their gallery on the Lower Richmond Road in Putney or at the Mesogio Gallery in Stoupa in Greece. Examples of his work can be found on these galleries’ websites. Chris has also shown for the last 2 years with Will’s at the Affordable Art Fairs in London, Bristol and in Scotland.
